Wojo World in Pinconning was an absolute hit! The grills were smoking, the crowd was buzzing, and our homemade infused BBQ sauce was the talk of the party. Folks lined up, ate great food prepared by our team, and kept asking the same question: “Where do we get that BBQ recipe?”. Since we don’t gatekeep from our amazing colony, here it is!

This sauce is perfect for ribs, wings, pulled pork and beef, or whatever you’re throwing on the grill or saucing up in the kitchen. So let’s get into how to concoct this amazingly smoky, tangy, and sweet sauce that had everyone raving at our Wojo World event.

Wojo Smokes Homemade BBQ Sauce

Infused with Wojo Solventless Oil

Ingredients
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2/3 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp ground mustard
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 WSO applicator for infusing. Omit if not infusing.
Instructions
  1. Preheat your pellet grill or oven to 350°.
  2. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  3. Toss the minced garlic and chopped onion in olive oil, and spread out on the sheet pan.
  4. Roast for 45 minutes or until caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients in a medium saucepan, and bring to a simmer.
  6. Once the onions and garlic are caramelized, add them to the saucepan.
  7. Use an immersion blender to puree everything together. A blender can also be used, but you’ll want the mixture to cool slightly first.
  8. Simmer on low for 90 minutes, stirring occasionally, to marry the flavors and thicken the sauce.
  9. If infusing, add 200mg of WSO and stir until the oil fully dissolves.
  10. Enjoy immediately, or let cool and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.

Makes about 2.5 cups (serves 4).
