Live rosin continues to evolve. From fresh press to cold cure, jam, and other carefully developed consistencies, wax producers have found new ways to showcase the flavor, aroma, texture, and character of the plant.
One of the formats getting a ton of attention in the solventless world is the live rosin thumbprint.
We decided to put our own spin on it with The Wojo Wax Impression. But before getting into that, there is a story behind the thumbprint itself.
What Is a Live Rosin Thumbprint?
A live rosin thumbprint combines two different rosin consistencies within the same jar.
The traditional format features a ring of cold-cure live rosin surrounding a softer, more fluid rosin jam in the center. Visually, the two textures create the distinctive appearance that gives the thumbprint its name. However, the Thumbprint is about more than appearance. Bringing two different rosins together gives us another opportunity to experiment with texture, aroma, flavor, genetics, and terpene combinations.
Rather than presenting a single rosin in a single consistency, a thumbprint creates a powerful terpene-rich combination within each 2 gram jar.

Why Is It Called a Thumbprint?
So, why are they called Thumbprints? The name has its roots outside of cannabis. Enter the world of baked goods.
Thumbprints are actually cookies that are traditionally made with a small indentation in the center of the cookie that is filled with jam or fruit preserves. The finished cookie has a firmer outer portion surrounding a soft, colorful center.
Although it may seem like someone pushed their thumb into the jar and left a thumbprint, the cookie’s resemblance to this type of rosin format is hard to miss.
The modern rosin thumbprint is widely credited to California hash maker The Real Cannabis Chris, who has described getting the idea while visiting a local co-op eating a thumbprint cookie filled with lemon jam. Cold cure became the outside. Rosin jam became the center. And the thumbprint was born. Since then, the style has spread throughout the solventless community, with hash makers around the country developing their own combinations and interpretations.

Two Textures. One Jar.
Part of what makes a thumbprint interesting is the contrast.
Cold-cure rosin typically has a soft, workable consistency, while rosin jam has a wetter, glossier appearance (the gooey middle.)
Put the two together and you get something distinctly different from opening a traditional jar of live rosin.
You can see the separation between the two consistencies. You can experience each component individually. Or you can mix them up and bring the two together.
That versatility is a big part of what has made thumbprints such an interesting format of solventless concentrates.
Why Have Rosin Thumbprints Become So Popular?
There is no single reason. But we can come up with a few.
They Showcase the Craft and CREATOR
Producing quality live rosin already requires careful control throughout cultivation, harvest, fresh freezing, washing, pressing, curing, and storage.
A thumbprint adds another element: pairing and presenting multiple consistencies together in one finished product. Not any producer can execute the perfect blend of all of these elements.
But if they are able to produce a good thumbprint, it gives hash makers another canvas for their craft and an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The Combinations Are Almost Endless
Thumbprints also open the door to pairing different cultivars and terpene profiles. Something Wojo is known for!
When there is only one live rosin flavor, the question is, “What does this strain taste like?”
The question becomes:
“What happens when these two live rosin profiles meet?”
That creates an entirely new level of experimentation.
Some combinations can complement one another. Others can create sharp contrasts. And occasionally two profiles come together to create something completely unexpected.
They Look AMAZING
The visual appeal alone is one of the biggest draws.
A carefully made thumbprint is immediately recognizable when you open the jar. The contrast between cold cure and glossy rosin jam has helped make thumbprints one of the most recognizable formats in today’s solventless scene.
But good looks alone aren’t enough. For Wojo, what goes into the jar still matters most.

Introducing THE Wojo Impression
That brings us to The Wojo Wax Impression. Our freshest release of live rosin product.
We’ve spent years obsessing over solventless production, from the plants we cultivate to the fresh frozen material we wash and the live rosin that eventually makes its way into the jar.
Impressions give us a new way to work with that rosin. A chance to explore different textures and experiment with multiple strain combinations.
Most importantly, the new Impression is a chance to create terpene pairings that wouldn’t exist in a traditional single-strain jar.
The name Impression felt right for something built around the thumbprint concept while still giving it a Wojo identity of its own.
Every pairing gives us an opportunity to leave a different and long-lasting impression.

More Than a New Shape
Thumbprints are easy to recognize because of their appearance, but that isn’t what makes the format exciting to us.
It’s the possibilities inside the jar. With Wojo’s diverse strain vault, they are endless.
Two consistencies. Two Flavor Collections. Unique terpene profiles. A mix of cultivars. Endless combinations.
The Wojo Impression gives our team another way to explore some of our most loved rosin strains while staying rooted in the same solventless process and attention to detail behind our concentrates.
It’s a new format. But it’s still The Wojo Way.
